WONDERFUL! Art Research Program 2024 1st edition – Maria Manetti Shrem

From Friday, December 22, 2023 until January 31, 2024, applications are open to participate in the WONDERFUL! Art Research Program 2024 1st edition – Maria Manetti Shrem at the Museo Novecento, designed to support education and production in contemporary art.

WONDERFUL! was created to host in a new area of the Museo Novecento 4 young artists and 1 curator with a valid italian residence permit born since January 1, 1990, by providing them with a residency for the duration of six months ( March – September 2024).

The residencies include common spaces and private accommodations. The selected artists and curator will undergo a training program and produce an exhibition at the end of the 6-month residency that will illustrate the research being carried out. Each artist and curator will be awarded 5,000 euros. The winners will be selected by a jury composed of Museo Novecento Artistic Director Sergio Risaliti and Museo Novecento curatorial team Eva Francioli, Francesca Neri and Stefania Rispoli.

They will also carry out inspections inside companies and professional studios with the intention of establishing collaborations for the creation of new productions and, at the end of their residency period, they will present their work in an exhibition. A small but virtuous “citadel” of art will thus come into being inside the Museo Novecento, a place designed for study and experimentation that will give space and time to research in the field of contemporary art.

The residencies are designed as a period of study, research and production in the city of Florence, which for centuries has been a hotbed of ideas, a home for artists and a source of inspiration for thinkers and creative people of all disciplines. An opportunity to enrich the city with new creative energies and bring into dialogue with diverse cultural and productive realities. During the residency, the artists and the curator will meet personalities from the artistic, cultural, and other worlds through studio visits, laboratories, lectio, workshops, and conferences that will take place involving architects, curators, gallery owners, artists, communicators, designers, restorers, scholars, and many other operators, in synergy with the scientific programming of the Museo Novecento.
