From the Renaissance onwards, Florence has always been a place of experimentation. Great artistic talents were trained in the workshops and patrons supported the development of quality arts and crafts.
The WONDERFUL! Award was born on these historical foundations and in response to the pandemic to give concrete recognition and support to the new generation of Italian artists, hard hit, together with the entire artistic system, by the health and economic crisis.
Through a public selection in which 290 artists took part, a jury composed of Pepi Marchetti Franchi, director of Gagosian Gallery Rome, Cristiana Perrella, former director of the Pecci Center in Prato, Francesca Pinzauti, collector and entrepreneur and Paola Ugolini, independent curator, selected the artists Binta Diaw, Riccardo Giacconi, Marco Giordano and Margherita Raso who were awarded with a one-year scholarship.
The exhibition represents the final moment of this project and an opportunity to present to the public the research of these four excellent artists, housed in the heart of the city, in Palazzo Vecchio, in a room that has dedicated numerous exhibitions to the contemporary over the years. , a sign of constant attention to the most recent artistic production.
The intent of WONDERFUL! is to tell the most recent developments in art in Italy through the voice of four artists born between the mid-eighties and mid-nineties. The works presented in the Sala d’Arme – including installations and videos – are the photography of a generation of new authors, their languages, their interests and their gaze on contemporaneity.
