Michele de Lucchi is the protagonist of the seventh appointment with the cycle the Architect’s Table curated by Laura Andreini – which from time to time involves famous architects, collectives and architectural firms of the contemporary scene.

From the experience of the houses carved with the chainsaw, symbol of a research on the theme of living, we arrive with the Earth Stations to a broader evolution always linked to the theme of living and to the quality of man’s life condition on the Earth, but this time enlarged in scale and linked to the relationship between Man-Nature-Technology.

The first Earth Stations, called Originals, refer to new workplaces and buildings for public services. In the Many Hands version, five types of Stations are imagined, one for each climatic condition – desert, temperate, continental, polar, tropical – which aim to amplify the meaning of man’s relationship with the Earth. New architectural visions no longer distant from their function but which will help mankind to increasingly develop his aptitude for mutual exchange and all forms of creativity and craftsmanship.

The Originals (2018) define and carry on the principles of the Earth Stations philosophy by imagining new work and entertainment spaces. The Many Hands (2019) rediscover and enhance the human ability to build monumental buildings with the hands of many men alone. The Education Stations (in progress) are innovative learning spaces, where the exchange of knowledge between teachers and pupils is circular.

Michele De Lucchi

He was among the protagonists of Alchemy and Memphis. He has designed furniture for the best known Italian and European companies. He was responsible for Olivetti Design from 1988 to 2002. He has carried out architectural projects in Italy and around the world including cultural, office, industrial and residential buildings. For Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Bundesbahn, Enel, Poste Italiane, Hera, Intesa Sanpaolo, UniCredit and other Italian and foreign institutes, he has designed work environments and corporate identities. He has developed important hotel projects in Tbilisi (Georgia), Beijing (China), on the Rokkō-san complex (Japan) and in various parts of Italy. He has designed buildings and exhibition systems for museums such as the Milan Triennale, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, the Neues Museum in Berlin and the Galleria d’Italia in Milan. In 2000 he was awarded the honor of Officer of the Italian Republic by President Ciampi. In 2001 he was appointed Full Professor at the IAUV in Venice. In 2006 he received an Honorary Doctorate from Kingston University. Since 2008 he has been Full Professor at the Faculty of Design at the Milan Polytechnic and Academician at the National Academy of San Luca in Rome. In 2018 he was director of the magazine “Domus”. Michele De Lucchi is founder and part of Amdl Circle, an interdisciplinary circle of innovative designers. Since 2018, Amdl Circle’s research has focused on Earth Stations, a new typology of buildings that use humanistic and technological knowledge to foster human relationships.
