“I can’t grasp the present. I embrace the past and the future in the most intimate way possible. The present wavers”. – André Butzer, 2006
The Museo Novecento is pleased to announce two major exhibitions featuring the work of the German artist André Butzer (Stuttgart, 1973), curated by Sergio Risaliti: Liebe, Glaube und Hoffnung (Love, Faith and Hope) at the Museo Novecento from 1 March 2024 to 9 June 2024 and “… und der Tod ist auch ein Leben.” (… and death as well is a life), at the Museo Stefano Bardini from 22 March to 9 June 2024.
This dual-faceted exhibition will allow visitors to fully explore the entire artistic trajectory of André Butzer. His practice takes its cue from an original blend of European expressionism and American popular culture. Alongside names such as Jawlensky, Munch and Kirchner, Henry Ford and Walt Disney also play a major role in Butzer’s biography and artistic formation. In addition to these names, the influences of Cézanne and Matisse must also be mentioned. Since his youth, the artist has admired these French painters, the founders of modern art.
