Starting Jan. 20, A School of Art in Museums returns, the series of events for children and adults that teaches them to try their hand at artistic techniques and languages
Back at the Museo Novecento starting Jan. 20, A scuola d’arte nei musei, the series of events curated by the Florentine Civic Museums and MUS.E that interweaves the collections and exhibitions of the city’s museums to offer an original educational itinerary on artistic techniques and languages. Inaugurated in fall 2022, it is developed in collaboration with the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Firenze and is aimed on the one hand at adults and on the other at children aged 8 to 12 with their families.
The first course of 2024, titled Oil Painting: Expression in the Twentieth Century, will begin on January 20, 2024 and will be developed in six meetings, on a weekly basis, in the spaces of the Museo Novecento in Florence.
Indeed, the great variety of styles in the museum’s permanent collection will be the inspiration for an artistic journey that will focus on the technique of oil painting in its most varied expressions, from the preparation of materials and exercises in drafting and shading color to the poetic and stylistic exploration of great artists such as Giorgio Morandi, Filippo De Pisis, Giorgio De Chirico, Mario Sironi, Renato Guttuso, and Ottone Rosai.
Through the six meetings of the course, participants will gradually come to experience the different stages that lead to the creation of an oil painting, drawing in front of the works in the museum, discovering how painting supports are created, reflecting on the importance of materials, trying their hand at the different techniques of drafting and shading, coloring with brush and palette knife, and finally each creating their own painting inspired by the style of a 20th-century artist.
The meetings will be led by Giulia Argentino, Marion Gizard, Francesca Bologna and Marco Salvucci, MUS.E “masters of art” and supported by young students from the Florence Academy of Fine Arts.
Art materials provided during the meetings are made available by F.I.L.A. – Fabbrica Italiana Lapis ed Affini.
Reservations are required. Constant attendance at the course is recommended; however, the meetings can also be enjoyed individually.
Appointments for families are intended for both children and their carers.
