On the occasion of the exhibition Artisti al teatro. Drawings for the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino are planned specific visits that will allow to retrace the decades of the twentieth century according to an absolutely particular perspective: to outline the traits of the history of art from the thirties onwards, In fact, it will be the sketches made by the great painters and sculptors who – as set designers and costume designers – have contributed to making the proposal of May truly unique. It will thus be possible to return to 1933, when for the first time Giorgio De Chirico went on stage scandalizing the audience with his enigmatic sets, to continue with the courageous work of the protagonists of the Italian twentieth century called from time to time to paint scenes and costumes of melodramas, operas and ballets: just remember Felice Casorati, Mario Sironi, Gino Severini, Enrico Prampolini, Franco Angeli, Piero Dorazio, Toti Scialoja, Giacomo Manzù, Fausto Melotti, Giulio Paolini. Here their drawings and their creations – between Metaphysics and Neofuturism, Abstraction and Pop art, Expressionism and Conceptual – will lead the public to look with other eyes at the great currents of the twentieth century and, together, to relive the magic of this extraordinary union between art and theater.
