Workshop in English and Italian dedicated to listening practices in urban space
Friday 15 December H2.00pm – 5.00pm and Saturday 16 December 10.00am – 5.00pm
Urban sounds arise from the sum of the social relations of a city, its history, its architecture, the nature that inhabits it.
Is it possible to better understand the dynamics of an urban space, its contradictions, successes and failings starting from listening to it? What do soundscapes highlight about the communities and social practices that develop in a given urban space?
Urban listening Florence audio marathon wants to be an immersion in the urban sound space with the aim of problematizing it through listening. The intention is not to give answers but to provide tools for the knowledge and questioning of the citizens’ social spaces.
Together with Francesco Giannico and Elisabetta Senesi we will try to listen to Florence: with the instruments of acoustic ecology we will turn our attention to a small part of the city, the area surrounding Santa Maria Novella, a crossroads full of contradictions and a mirror of the different souls of the city.
Two days of workshops in which we will ask ourselves what listening to its soundscape can tell us about the city and whether it is possible, through listening to an urban space, to understand its role in the dynamics of the social life of the city, and to imagine possible sound interventions in space.
Curated by Radio Papesse in collaboration with Comune di Firenze, MUS.E and Museo Novecento.
