Open Works
During the visit, the dialogue with the works and with the visitors will be conducted by a group of migrants adhering to the AMIR project, young people from various countries who have studied the art of our time and of our peninsula by relating it to their own history, their origins, their homeland. The visit will therefore allow you to approach some of the exhibited works with the eyes of someone who has come to Florence as a “new citizen”: visitors will therefore be guided by voices belonging to different cultures and invited to observe the forms, the codes, the meanings of Italian art of our time and understand how the work of art is truly “open” and the “active center of an inexhaustible network of relationships”. (U. Echo).
The visit is proposed as part of the AMIR / Hospitality Museums Inclusion Report project, organized by the Municipality of Fiesole, the Municipality of Florence – MUS.E, Istituto degli Innocenti, Fondazione Primo Conti, Stazione Utopia, thanks to the support of the CR Firenze Foundation.

Gesture of painting
Painting is not just the representation of something recognizable and legible. During the twentieth century many artists went beyond the frontiers of figuration to venture into the world of the abstract. Through a short journey through the collection of the Museo Novecento, children will be invited to confront these two great concepts that are identified in different ways of painting but also of looking at the world. Among the many types of approach, children will discover what it means to express their emotions with informal painting, well represented in the museum by the work Plurimo by the artist Emilio Vedova. They will also look for the differences between the way of working of this artist and the American Jackson Pollock, creator of the “dripping” technique and leader of the abstract expressionism movement. Painting standing up, dancing around the canvas, dripping paint to the rhythm of jazz are the cornerstones of his technique that children will then have the opportunity to experiment through a laboratory activity where color, emotions and music will merge into a single experience.

Collage: the art of choosing
In collage, a purely twentieth-century technique, brushes, colors or crayons are not used, but a “choice” is made by critically selecting and superimposing details of images, photographs, magazines, writings and more to create and compose something new. In this sense, the resulting work is often alienating, not wanting to delude reality but to tell a way of seeing that uses the forms of representation to go further. After a brief visit to the museum, in which the works that have their distinctive trait in the “composition” will be highlighted and attention will be paid to the possible ways of depicting reality, the participants will be able to try their hand at making a portrait/ self-portrait in the form of a collage/décollage which, going beyond the idea of realistic reproduction, includes emotions, qualities, expressions and characters of the person represented.

Art Machine
The itinerary is presented as a “journey through time” which investigates the languages, techniques and principles of the twentieth century arts: the children will thus be involved in an itinerary of discovery of the many artistic forms of the twentieth century in the animated dialogue between tradition and innovation, ancient and modern, abstract and concrete. In this sense, the meeting with the great artists of the century and their works will be an opportunity for a personal reworking that will allow children to take home a very special “collection” of their own experience.
