Meeting by Gregorio Moppi with musicians Luigi Attademo, Maurizio Ben Omar, Maurizio Leoni and Luciano Tristaino around the opera El Cimarrón written by the German composer Hans Werner Henze (1926-2012) during his Cuban stay in the late 60s and inspired by the autobiographical events of the freed slave Esteban Montejo, El Cimarròn.
Henze captured in Montejo’s autobiography the symbolic force of a life that touched all the seasons of Cuban history, from the abolition of slavery to the war of independence, from American rule to the Castro revolution. The composer made this opera the occasion to develop his sound experimentation, reaching a real peak in the music of the time, and to propose a reflection on the condition of man and his freedom.
