Intersections, frictions, adhesion and dissent, remaking and repentance. Between declared combinations and possible short circuits, Melania Mazzucco tells the relationship of a powerful contemporary artist with the memory of the past and the energy of tradition.
The writer among the best known and read in Italy and abroad will be the protagonist in the Sala d’Arme of Palazzo Vecchio for the meeting From Saville to Botticelli. Correlations, presented by Pierpaolo Orlando, President of the Fenysia – Scuola di linguaggi della cultura and introduced by Elisabetta Berti, journalist of La Repubblica. The appointment will be aimed at investigating the relationship between the famous British painter Jenny Saville, to whom the Museo Novecento dedicates a large solo exhibition in five Florentine museums, and the great masters of the past: from Botticelli to Tintoretto, from Michelangelo to Titian, Saville’s painting is imbued with the lesson of the Renaissance as well as the legacy of the great American art of the Twentieth Century.
Melania Mazzucco has in her DNA an endless passion for masterpieces of modern and past art. Not only a great pen and storyteller, Mazzucco is first of all a serious and determined scholar who approaches art with the air of a novelist and the scruple of an art historian. Among his main works, we remember the two novels dedicated to the Venetian painter Tintoretto, The long wait of the angel (2008, Bagutta Prize) and Jacomo Tintoretto & his sons. Story of a Venetian family (2009), biography of the master and his beloved daughter Marietta, which reconstructs one hundred and fifty years of Venice’s history. Her latest novel, The Architect (2019) was a great success and is dedicated to the figure of Plautilla Bricci (Rome, 1616 – post 1690), the only female architect in pre-industrial Europe.

She was born in Rome in 1966. He made his debut with the novel Il bacio della Medusa (1996), which was followed by Baltus’s room (1998). From 2000 she is so beloved, about the writer Annemarie Schwarzenbach, of whom she then edited and translated the collection of short stories La gabbia dei falconi (2007). In Vita (2003, Premio Strega) she reinvents the story of her family’s emigration to America at the beginning of the twentieth century. The novel has great success in Italy and abroad. In 2005 he published A perfect day, from which the director Ferzan Ozpetek draws the film of the same name. To the Venetian painter Tintoretto, Melania Mazzucco dedicates the novel The long wait of the angel (2008, Bagutta Prize) and Jacomo Tintoretto & his sons. Story of a Venetian family (2009), biography of the master and his beloved daughter Marietta, which reconstructs one hundred and fifty years of Venice’s history. In January 2011 she received the Viareggio – Tobino Literary Prize as Author of the Year and in 2013 the Ignazio Silone Prize. For Einaudi he has published: Limbo (2012); The Dachshund and the Queen (2015); She so loved (latest edition 2016); You are as you are (2013); Life (2014); I am with you (2016). In 2013 he recounted 52 masterpieces of art in the Sunday column Il museo del mondo in the newspaper «la Repubblica» (a collection that later became a book for Einaudi in 2014).
