Three text-scores that describe, in the form of a diary, the construction of two handcrafted audiocassettes on trestles: This work is entitled “Achilles and the tortoise” and I am Achilles is the title of the book by the artist Raffaele Luongo (Caracas, 1966 ) which will be previewed at the Museo Novecento on Tuesday 6 December, at 6:00 pm, in the Sala Cinema.
The meeting, in the presence of the artist, will be introduced by Sergio Risaliti, director of the Museo Novecento, with speeches by Pietro Gaglianò, art critic, educator and independent curator and Desdemona Ventroni, art historian, teacher and expert researcher contemporary art archives and repertoires.
The story starts from the construction of two sculptures and the preparation of the installation in the gallery, which become three piano scores. The music is the final part of a process built to transfigure the two sculptures as the product of actions, in a music that is the representation of the same actions perceived from a different plane, an incommensurable plane, like a cube is compared to a square and therefore like a musical phrase it is compared to a handcrafted audio box. “Scores transform actions into musical notes: the shift expands my point of view. I think of myself as an agent who occupies and observes from a different plane, exactly as I do when I move aside to see Holbein’s skull of ambassadors.” “It’s been ten years since I built the first case. Ten years in which the hesitant idea of a single work developed, revealing itself in a form that now seems to me to have always been this. I go back trying to capture all the moments of these past years: I am everywhere and present in all this portion of time. I observe and listen to the work. I observe Andrea next to the walnut case. I observe myself…”.
